All evaluations by a board-certified veterinary radiologist.

Diplomates of the Americal College of Veterinary Radiology are specialized in imaging diagnostics and in imaging related treatment modalities.  Our training is extensive, spanning at least 3 years, and certified through multiple examinations.  Our professional interest and years of advanced training is in imaging, its what we do.   Let us use our specialty knowledge and training to assist you with your clients and patients.

Complete Imaging Reports

A complete and thorough report is to be expected.

It is our intent to routinely provide thorough and complete imaging reports.  We feel that a complete reporting style helps you by minimizing any confusion that may occur with a less detailed report.   Thorough and complete reporting  is our attempt to answer your questions before they are asked.
If we didn't answer all of your questions in the imaging report, please give us a call or send us an email!

Short Imaging Report Turn-Around Times

Focus on quality without delays in imaging reports.

We are a small teleradiology group and would prefer to stay that way.  It is not our goal to provide services to a large number of referring hospitals or veterinarians.  In staying small, we hope to provide shorter turn-around times with our imaging reports while maintaining quality.

Communication with the Radiologists

Fostering communication with radiologists to help you provide better patient care.

Communication between us and our referring veterinarians is encouraged in order to foster a "team approach" with respect to diagnostic imaging and ongoing patient care.   Feel free to call or email with questions about images or our interpretations.  In turn, we may want to call you to clarify history or to find out a little more  information that may help direct the radiologists interpretation and conclusions.
Radiologists at Sightline Veterinary Imaging will do our best to be available to answer any questions you may have, or return calls or email if we are unavailable at that moment.

Sightline Veterinary Imaging Policies

Routine, Priority, and  STAT radiograph and ultrasound consults.

As a small teleradiology company, we maintain regular business hours with radiologists located both in Eastern and Pacific time zones to maximize our availability.   However, as a small company, our ability to manage STAT cases on nights, weekends, and holidays is limited.  We will be utilizing DVMInsight and the radiology group at Idexx to help us maintain coverage in the off-peak hours to provide continuous service for your cases.

Non-stat cases submitted on weekends can still be read by radiologists at Sightline Veterinary Imaging.

What types of ultrasound cases can be evaluated?

Ultrasound studies are currently limited to the abdomen and cervical/thyroid.  Musculoskeletal, thorax, or other small parts may be interpreted on a case by case basis.  Please contact Sightline Veterinary Imaging (760) 219-8032 if you have other studies that you would like interpreted.

Report turn-around times

For standard radiograph and ultrasound cases, expect a 4-hour turn-around time (or less) if submitted before 5 pm, Pacific Standard Time.  Later submissions should be interpreted by 10 am Eastern Standard Time of the following day.

For STAT cases, expect a 1 hour turn-around time.   For any cases managed by radiologists at Sightline Veterinary Imaging (M-F, 8 am to 8 pm EST), the STAT fee will be waived if the report exceeds 1:15 minutes from the time of receiving the images to the report being sent.

Who is reading your cases?

Sightline Veterinary Imaging employs radiologists that are board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Radiology.    This ensures that the radiologist evaluating your case has had the required training and passed the examinations to attain board-certification.  The training is extensive and focused on multiple modalities, including radiology, ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and nuclear medicine.   The years of training and subsequent years of practice ensures your imaging study will be interpreted by a specialist in the field.

What if there is a question or a concern with the radiologists interpretation or conclusions?

In many cases, a short conversation about the images and report directly with the reading radiologist can clarify any miscommunication.   Email addresses and phone numbers should be included with each report.

In some cases, something in the images that may be of concern to you was not discussed in the initial report.  These are often variants of normal or incidental findings that may not routinely included in the formal report, but we are happy to discuss them with you.

In other cases, yes, we may have missed a lesion or mis-interpreted a lesion.  It can and does happen to all of us.   If you are concerned that something was missed or incorrectly interpreted, please call and we can discuss it further without any additional second opinion fees/charges.

If changes to the initial report are warranted, an amendment to the initial report will be generated and sent to you.

Use of dictation software (Dragon)

Most, if not all, human and veterinary radiologists utilize some form of dictation software to generate imaging reports.  Dictation software is an invaluable tool, but it does have its frustrations.  Dictation errors can occur that do not get identified during proofreading and end up your report.   If this occurs, it may be a simple omission of a word that does not change the meaning of the report.   In others, dictation errors can dramatically change the intended outcome of the report findings and/or conclusions.    Please let us know if you suspect a dictation error that was overlooked and changes or leads to suspicion of an error and we will provide an amendment or addendum to the report to address the issue.   If you are unsure if something is in error, we feel it is better to check with us rather than not, as it may affect your understanding of the report, further diagnostic or treatment plans, or prognosis for your patient in an unintended way.
